IT giant Fujitsu is set to dismiss a union representative who has previously spoken out against changes made to the company's pension provision, sparking a third wave of strike action by employees.

Members of Unite at Fujitsu's Manchester site will strike between January 24-26, on January 30, and between February 8-14 this year, in response to the dismissal of a union representative as part of 1,800 job cuts nationwide announced by the company in 2016.

Unite union representative Ian Allinson has been an outspoken critic of job cuts, as well as a change to the defined benefit scheme. In 2016, the company retrospectively lowered the late retirement factor to 5.25 per cent from 9 per cent.

A Pensions Ombudsman decision in January last year had upheld the decision, arguing that the LRF was not an ongoing benefit.

Fujistu declined to comment on the dispute.
