The Pensions Regulator (TPR) has hired Julian Lyne as interim executive director of market oversight.
He is standing in for Neil Bull, who TPR said had been “away from the business for an extended period”. Lyne will take up his new role on 14 April.
He was previously chief commercial officer at Newton Investments. He has also worked at F&C Investments, HSBC, JPMorgan and Fidelity in various client and consulting roles, working with defined benefit (DB) and defined contribution (DC) pension schemes.
Lyne said: “This is a pivotal time of change and evolution across both DB and DC pension provision, and the role of a forward-looking, market-facing regulator has never been more important. I look forward to contributing to TPR’s vital work in shaping a resilient and effective pensions system.”
The regulator has also appointed SV Rangan as senior adviser. Rangan has more than 35 years’ experience in financial services in the UK and overseas, having held senior roles at MetLife, AIG, and Citigroup, as well as being a senior adviser to the Financial Conduct Authority.
Nausicaa Delfas, chief executive officer at TPR, said: “Facing a rapidly changing pensions market, we are bolstering our expertise in areas such as asset management, investment and a knowledge of the broader financial landscape.
“Julian and SV join our existing pool of talented senior leaders, helping to ensure we continue to protect, enhance and innovate in savers’ interests.”
Change to Aon MasterTrust board
Experienced pensions consultant Paul Macro has joined the trustee board of the Aon MasterTrust.
He replaces Capital Cranfield’s Jonathan Reynolds, who is stepping down from the board after six years.
Macro is a partner at Ndapt, a professional trustee firm, and previously held senior DC consulting roles at Mercer, Towers Watson and Aon.
The other members of the master trust’s board are the chair, Kim Nash of Zedra Governance, Jenny Davidson of BESTrustees, and Keith Scott of Law Debenture Pension Trustees.
SEI bolsters fiduciary management team
Fiduciary management provider SEI has appointed Oliver Gin as a client strategy director on its UK team.
In his new role, Gin will be responsible for building and deepening relationships with DB pension scheme clients, SEI said.
He joins from Schroders’ fiduciary management business and previously worked in the investment units at Aon and WTW.
Don Baines, head of UK fiduciary management for SEI, said: “Amid a challenging macroeconomic environment, DB pension schemes are facing greater market volatility, new funding challenges, and more onerous regulatory requirements.
“A trustee’s ability to navigate these hurdles is largely determined by their scheme’s governance model, and we remain committed to helping them realise the opportunities that are available through partnering with our fiduciary team.”
